Prospect of talks knocked back by British political parties, but general election could change mood
The EU is hoping for a youth mobility agreement with the UK “when the time is right”, despite the proposal being knocked back by both the UK government and the Labour opposition.
On 18 April the European Commission said it had asked the EU’s member states to give a green light to starting talks with the UK on freeing up cross-border movement for young people. It said Brexit had “particularly affected the opportunities for young people to…benefit from youth, cultural, educational, research and training exchange”.
