Budget begins Accord process but wait continues for research funding increases

A national review of research funding, but no boost for major funding agencies, left the Australian research sector waiting in the federal budget.

The Australian Academy of Science said the “strategic review” announced in the 14 May budget was 30 years overdue, but was “a welcome acknowledgement by the government that a stronger, more resilient nation cannot be built with a stagnant and siloed R&D system based on decades-old settings”.
