Biomedical researcher Eva Ortega-Paíno appointed new secretary general for research
The Spanish science ministry has appointed biomedical researcher Eva Ortega-Paíno (pictured) as its new secretary general for research.
The secretariat general for research oversees the coordination of Spanish research institutions and promotes their activities. It is part of the Spanish ministry of science innovation and universities, currently headed at a political level by minister Diana Morant.
Ortega-Paíno has an extensive background in biochemistry and molecular biology, with a doctorate from Complutense University of Madrid and postdoctoral and senior researcher stints at the University of Lund in Sweden. Since then she has been the scientific director of the national cancer biobank and has held senior positions representing Spanish researchers.
In addition to her position as secretary general of research, Ortega-Paíno has joined the Advisory Council on Science, Technology and Innovation at the ministry, as well as the Research Ethics Committee at the Carlos III Health Institute, the ministry announced on 28 December.
