Student visas are back in the news as Home Office statistics show plummeting application numbers
The new Labour government has shown itself to be capable of picking low-hanging policy fruit. The Rwanda scheme has been axed, we can now build onshore windfarms should we wish to, planning laws are being reformed and nobody is allowed to talk about ‘levelling up’ anymore.
However, despite being a “day one priority” for new education minister Bridget Phillipson, we have yet to hear anything notable for university policy-watchers. The Department for Education hasn’t even found a picture of Jacqui Smith to put on its website yet—never mind add information about her official brief.
