The total amount of money allocated to higher education institutions in Wales is down by more than £20 million year on year, the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales has confirmed.

Hefcw published details of its 2024-25 higher education funding allocation on 9 July, with a total of £198.7m distributed. In 2023-24, the allocation was £219.3m, although a fall was expected following the finalisation of the Welsh government’s budget in February.
