To what extent will politicians heed the research sector’s warnings?
You may have blinked and missed it, but apparently the government has achieved its ambition to turn the UK “into a science and innovation superpower”. So says the Conservative Party’s election manifesto.
Presumably this occurred in the past six months, as back in December science secretary Michelle Donelan was still telling MPs how ministers would use the Science and Technology Framework to achieve this much-touted goal by 2030, albeit amid some woolly government positioning around “cementing” and “enhancing”.
