Science minister said visa issues “need to be looked at” to ensure UK remains “competitive”

The government has stressed it is “determined to bring down historically high levels of legal migration”, after new science minister Patrick Vallance said visa issues including costs “need to be looked at” to ensure the UK is “competitive” in science.

Vallance, the former government chief scientific adviser who was appointed by prime minister Keir Starmer to the role in the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, addressed issues for science around Brexit and visa costs in an interview with the BBC’s World at One on 10 July.
