New treatment shows that “all trustworthy journals should be valued”, says provider
The provider of Journal Impact Factors has altered how it is presenting the data in its latest annual update, in a move it says is intended to “level the playing field” between different journals.
JIFs are a measure of how many times the average paper published in a given journal is cited. They are used to help judge the importance of research, although as they are averages they should be applied at the level of journals rather than individual papers.
