NIH to boost researcher pay and childcare support

Doctoral candidates and postdocs at US agency to benefit from largest pay increases since 2017

The US National Institutes of Health is to increase pay levels for doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers by the largest amount in years, as well as increasing its support for researchers with children.

Doctoral candidates will receive about a 4 per cent pay rise in the 2024 financial year, bringing their pay levels to $28,224, while postdocs will get about an 8 per cent increase so that their pay starts at $61,008, the NIH announced on 23 April. Postdocs with more experience will get higher pay.
